Why should I invest in Central Heating?

Most New Zealand homes have been designed so that one room (usually the living room) has the main heating appliance in it, while the rest of the house is either not heated at all, or heated via very inefficient or expensive appliances (eg fan heaters, nightstore heaters etc). This often means the living room can be too hot (sometimes up to 30oC) while bedrooms are freezing.

By installing a warm water central heating system run by a wood pellet boiler, you can deliver heat consistently throughout the entire house. A wood pellet boiler is highly efficient (up to 85%), burns carbon-neutral wood pellets made from sustainable, local resources, and are easy to control so you get exactly the heat you need in the places that you need it.

This will mean your house will be warmer and drier, and help to keep you and your family more comfortable and healthy during the cold winter months.

What are the advantages of installing Central Heating?

EFFECTIVE: Warm water central heating systems heat your whole house!
EFFICIENT: Water transfers energy at four times the rate of air making warm water central heating systems so much more efficient than warm air systems.
QUIET: The systems are virtually silent.
QUICK: With radiator systems, the house can be warm within minutes of the system being turned on regardless of how cold it is outside.
SAFE: A safe option for children and the elderly because there are no naked flames or elements, and for people with respiratory or allergy problems because there is no forced air flow.
CONTROLLABLE: Systems are fully programmable and they can be thermostatically controlled or turned off in rooms that are not being used.
HEALTHY: Central heating systems improve general health and well being of the occupants, especially children and the elderly.

Is Central Heating better than installing a heat pump?

In terms of efficiency, water transfers energy at a much higher rate than air and radiant heat (ie from a radiator) has been found to be much more comfortable for the human body than warm air heating (ie from a heat pump). Additionally, a heat pump will generally only heat one room, using fan forced, drafty air, where as a central heating system can heat the whole house with radiant heat.

How much will it cost to run?

Every family and every home has unique needs when it comes to home heating, so a system would have to be customised to suit you. This of course means the prices vary considerably for different systems depending on radiator choice, plumbing needs, style of the house etc. However to give you an indication of cost Central Heating New Zealand can provide the following cost examples and comparisons.
